Individual Counselling

You don't have to keep holding everything together on your own.

Perhaps you're anxious, overwhelmed or exhausted. You might be overthinking everything, struggling with your emotions or relationships, or feeling as though you've somehow lost touch with yourself.

Sometimes you know exactly what's brought you to counselling. At other times, it's harder to explain — you just know that things don't feel right anymore.

I offer individual counselling for adults and young people, both face-to-face near Stratford-upon-Avon and online.

How I can help

People come to me for many different reasons. You might be experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress or constant overthinking

  • Emotional overwhelm or difficulty regulating emotions

  • Low self-esteem or lack of confidence

  • Burnout or feeling exhausted by everyday life

  • Difficulties within relationships

  • Trauma or experiences from the past that continue to affect you

  • People-pleasing, perfectionism or difficulty setting boundaries

  • Feeling lost, stuck or unsure of who you are

  • ADHD, autism or other experiences of neurodivergence

  • A recent diagnosis or a growing realisation that you may be neurodivergent

  • Work, family or life changes that have become difficult to manage

You don't need to fit neatly into one of these categories to come to counselling.

Sometimes the starting point is simply “I don't want to keep feeling like this.”

A therapy that makes sense of you

I'm particularly interested in understanding why we think, feel and behave in the ways we do.

Rather than seeing anxiety, overwhelm, avoidance, people-pleasing or strong emotions as things that simply need to be stopped, we can become curious about what they are doing for you and where those patterns may have developed.

Often, behaviours that are causing difficulties now once made complete sense.

Understanding that can help us move away from self-criticism and towards finding different ways of responding.

Neurodivergence

I work with many people with ADHD, autism or other experiences of neurodivergence, including people diagnosed later in life and those who are beginning to question whether they may be neurodivergent.

You may have spent years wondering why certain things seem harder for you than for other people, masking how much you're struggling, feeling “too much” or “not enough”, or becoming exhausted from trying to meet expectations that don't fit how your brain works.

Therapy doesn't have to be about changing who you are.

It can be about understanding yourself better, recognising what you need and finding ways of living that work with you rather than against you.

What is counselling with me like?

I'm a BACP-registered psychotherapist and my approach is warm, collaborative and practical.

My work is informed by CBT, trauma-informed practice and other therapeutic approaches, but I don't believe therapy should feel like somebody applying a textbook to you.

We'll work together.

Sometimes that means looking at what is happening in your life right now. Sometimes we'll explore earlier experiences and relationships. At other times we might look closely at thoughts, behaviours, emotional responses or patterns that keep repeating.

You won't be expected to arrive knowing what to talk about or having the “right” words.

We start wherever you are.

Taking the first step

Finding a counsellor can feel surprisingly difficult. You may have looked at several websites already and still be wondering who you would actually feel comfortable talking to.

You don't have to decide everything before contacting me.

Send me a short message telling me a little about what has brought you to counselling and your general availability. We can have an initial conversation and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
